The Albert Building was one of the
first major office buildings in San
Rafael, constructed in 1931.

It was designed with the finest
materials of the day,with marble
lined corridors and mahogany
interior trim and doors.

The exterior was elegantly
detailed with marble base, quality
brick facade and Gladding McBean
glazed terra-cotta detail trim at
key locations, and at the main
entrance.

The addition of this new awning
system required a sensitive design
approach to enhance the style and
the existing details. The solution
was to use shaped steel frames,
stepped support struts, and wire
glass to harmonize with the
classic style of the original
building facade.
